Why Parking Takes Planning Here
If you have arranged a car hire and are driving down after your Tenerife South airport transfer, it helps to understand the resort layout before you arrive. Your own vehicle gives you the freedom to explore the island, but the resort core needs a little strategy because so much of it is pedestrianised.
The seafront promenade (Paseo Francisco Andrade Fumero) and the Verónicas strip are closed to vehicles. The drivable boundary runs along Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina and Avenida de las Américas, so if your accommodation sits on the beachfront you cannot drive to the front door.
Dropping Off Your Luggage
Do not try to force your way down the pedestrian streets to unload bags — the Policía Local patrol these boundaries and will stop you. Pull up at the nearest drivable boundary to drop luggage and passengers, then go straight to a car park or street bay.
Kerb Colours Decoded
To avoid a ticket or a tow, learn the local kerb code. The painted line on the road tells you whether you can leave the car and what it will cost.
| Kerb colour | What it means | Typical tariff |
|---|---|---|
| White lines | Free public parking, no time limit | Free |
| Blue lines | Paid zona azul with a time limit | Around 1.20 euros per hour |
| Yellow lines | No parking or stopping | Not applicable |
| Residentes | Reserved for local permit holders | Not applicable |
In the blue zona azul bays, parking is usually capped at one or two hours during shopping hours. Buy a ticket from a nearby pay-and-display machine or display the cardboard time-disc often left in your hire car's glovebox. Blue bays are generally free overnight and on Sundays, but check the nearest machine for the exact local hours.
Where to Park for Free
A free white-lined space is realistic if you time your arrival well. As you plan your things to do in Playa de las Américas, factor parking into the schedule before you set off.
Reliable Free Areas
- Parque Santiago 6: the streets around this centre, such as Calle Venezuela, have white-line bays within walking distance of the centre
- Calle Noelia Afonso Cabrera: behind the Bitácora complex, a long street with free spaces about a 10-minute walk from the beach
- Antonio Domínguez stadium: a large unpaved esplanade used heavily for free parking, though it is congested and closes during events
The trick with these free spaces is simple — arrive early. Aim to park between 08:00 and 10:30; after that, day-trippers and beachgoers fill the white bays until late in the evening.
Paid and Underground Car Parks
To avoid circling for a space — or for a guaranteed spot and shade from the midday sun — a paid underground car park is the easy option.
Safari Centre Car Park
The main underground car park sits beneath the Safari Centre on Avenida de las Américas. It is open 24 hours, takes cards and has EV charging, at a flat daily rate of around 20 euros — pricey for Tenerife, but central and secure.

Hotel Parking and Fines
Hotel parking varies widely across the resort, so confirm the arrangements with your accommodation before you finalise the booking.
How Hotel Parking Compares
- Mediterranean Palace and Cleopatra Palace: parking usually included free for guests
- Sol Tenerife: around 6 euros a day for an uncovered space
- Alexandre Hotel Troya: around 10 euros a day
- Hotel Zentral Center: around 12 euros a day for covered parking
- H10 Las Palmeras: free but limited, unattended spaces on a first-come basis
Fall foul of the rules and a parking fine runs about 80 to 200 euros, plus a recovery fee if the car is towed. The hire firm receives the ticket and adds an admin fee before passing it on, though paying a Spanish fine within 20 days usually earns a 50% discount.
You need not worry about the low-emission zone planned for Arona's 'milla de oro': a modern hire car carries the DGT environmental sticker (C, ECO or 0) needed to enter, and the zone is not yet enforced as of mid-2026.
